Can you download mods not logged in nmm

NMM is sometimes a bit buggy when it comes to this. When i get a mod using "download with manager", and it seems to be download succesfully, but is not listed in NMM afterwards, i shut down Nexus and will afterwards go to the Nexus Mods folder (usually in: C:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager) to see if the mod was in fact added. Can I use Nexus Mod Manager to download mods? Like the title says, do I have to download and install mods manually, or can I use NMM? Specifically, for big mods like Tamriel Rebuilt and Skyrim Home of the Nords. Just keep in mind that NMM CE is not compatible with other mod managers, so if you care about your current mod install setup for a specific game avoid switching mod managers or just be ready to start from scratch.
